Hoop College Is Now Step Up for Students Approved — What That Means for Your Family

There's a question I get from parents pretty regularly, especially homeschool families: "Is there any way to make this more affordable?"

I always appreciated the honesty. Training costs money. Good training costs real money. And for families who are already investing in their child's education — especially homeschool families managing everything on one budget — every dollar has to count.

That's why I'm glad I can finally say this: Hoop College is now an approved provider through Step Up for Students.

What Is Step Up for Students?

Step Up for Students is a Florida-based nonprofit that administers education scholarship programs for K–12 students. If your child qualifies, the scholarship can be used to cover approved educational programs and enrichment services — including training programs like Hoop College.

It's not a voucher for public school. It's funding that follows your child and gives your family more control over how and where they learn and develop.

For a lot of families in Broward County, this changes the math entirely.

Why This Matters for Homeschool Families Especially

Homeschool families already think differently about education. You've made a deliberate choice to be more involved in what your child learns, when they learn it, and how. That mindset fits perfectly with what we do at Hoop College.

We don't run cookie-cutter drills. We train decision-making. We develop Basketball IQ. We put players in game-like situations so the skills actually transfer when it matters — in real games, under pressure, when the clock is running.

That's education. It just happens on a court.

If you've been homeschooling your child and looking for a structured athletic development program that takes the work seriously, Step Up approval means you may now be able to use scholarship funds to cover Hoop College training. That's a door that wasn't open before.

Who Should Look Into This

If your child is between 7 and 17 and you're in Broward County, it's worth checking your eligibility. Step Up serves a wide range of families — not just homeschoolers. Traditional school families qualify too depending on their situation.

I'd encourage you to visit the Step Up for Students website directly to see what scholarships are available and whether your family qualifies. I'm not going to walk you through the application here because eligibility depends on your specific circumstances and the programs change — you want the most current information straight from them.

What I can tell you is that if you're approved, Hoop College is on the list.

What Comes Next

If you're already a Hoop College family and you think you might qualify, reach out. I'm happy to talk through how it works on our end.

If you're a new family — homeschool or otherwise — and you've been on the fence about getting your child started, this might be the moment to take a closer look.

We start with a $1 trial session. No commitment. Just come out and see the training, and let your player experience it for themselves.

That's always been the offer. Now there's just one more way to make it work for your family.
